# How to use the template saving feature in the Forma desktop app

## The Template Saving feature in the Forma Desktop App helps you reuse your AutoForma designs quickly and consistently across multiple projects. This feature saves time and ensures consistency.

**What does this feature do?**

When working in **AutoForma mode**, Forma Desktop automatically saves a JSON template file each time you complete the **Fit** step. This file contains your design parameters and trimlines.

- After completing the Fit, the app creates a file named **fit\_template.json** in your project folder.
- The next time you launch the Fit step, the software detects the saved template and asks if you’d like to **reuse it**.
- You can also copy this file into a new project to reuse your design as a starting point.

This makes it easy to maintain **standardized designs** across patients or sessions without starting from scratch.

**How to Use the Feature**

***Complete the fit step***

Begin by going through the **Fit step** in a project using **AutoForma**. When you reach the end of this step, Forma Desktop will **automatically generate a file** named fit\_template.json inside the selected project folder.

***Restart Fit in the Same Project***

If you start the **Fit step again** in the same project, a popup will appear:

**“Load existing template?”**  
Click **Yes** to reuse your previous design settings.

This will reload all trimlines, hole patterns, lengths, and parameters from the last Fit session.

***Reuse in a Different Project***

To reuse your design in a new project:

- Create or open your **new project folder**.
- **Copy the fit\_template.json file** from the original project folder and paste it into the new one.
- Launch the **Fit step** in the new project. The app will ask if you want to load the existing template.
- Click **Yes** to start from your saved model.

**Quick FAQ**

**Q: Where can I find the saved template file?**  
A: It’s located in the project folder, named fit\_template.json.

**Q: Can I rename this file?**  
A: No — the filename must remain **exactly** fit\_template.json in order for the software to recognize and load it.

**Q: Does this work in FreeForma mode?**  
A: No, this feature is exclusive to the **AutoForma** workflow.
